Dr. Jack Van Impe, whose prophecy TV program Jack Van Impe Presents co-hosted by his wife Rexella was long one of the highest-rated Christian programs on television, went home to meet the Savior on Saturday, January 18, 2020. Dr. Van Impe was 88 years old.
He will long be remembered as a dedicated soul-winner, evangelist, defender of the biblical faith, renowned expert in Bible prophecy, author, and beloved husband of Dr. Rexella Van Impe, herself a talented musician and Bible scholar.
They are widely known for their TV broadcast Jack Van Impe Presents, with its innovative and fast-paced format that focused on what was happening around the world through the lens of Bible prophecy, with a clear proclamation of the Gospel.
The program was broadcast to as many as 25,000 cities in North America each week, and every nation worldwide.
His passion was to bring people to faith in Jesus.
Dr. Van Impe was not only a prophecy expert but was also known as “The Walking Bible” — he had memorized 22,000 Scripture verses and inspired countless people across North America and worldwide to memorize Scripture, too.
“His life demonstrated the importance of ‘laying up these words of Mine in your heart and in your soul’ (Deuteronomy 11:18). May we all be inspired to do the same,” said Rev. Franklin Graham.
Dr. Van Impe received his start in ministry with Dr. Billy Graham’s Youth for Christ outreach, often sharing the stage with Graham and George Beverly Shea. Through 12 years of live outreach ministry, Drs. Jack and Rexella Van Impe conducted 260 massive citywide crusades and 800 week-long church crusades.
Many were broadcast as nationwide television specials in such famed meeting places as Carnegie Hall, the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the Waikiki Shell in Honolulu, the Los Angeles Convention Center, and others. Dr. Van Impe began radio broadcasts in the 1970s, and in 1980 launched his television ministry.
He was born on February 9, 1931, in Freeport, Michigan, and graduated from Detroit Bible College in 1952. He married Rexella Shelton, the love of his life, in 1952. She and the board of Jack Van Impe Ministries will shepherd the evangelistic outreach forward in the days ahead.
Memorial services celebrating Dr. Van Impe’s extraordinary life and ministry will be Saturday, February 1, 2020, with a viewing at 10 a.m. and the service at 11 a.m. at Woodside Bible Church, Troy Campus, 6600 Rochester Road, Troy, MI 48085. There will be a public visitation on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 3-8 p.m. at the church.
